Construction and infrastructure firm Morgan Sindall has been appointed to build a new £12 million leisure centre to replace the ageing Heston Pool.
The proposed development will see the 1930s centre replaced with a modern energy-efficient building that offers sports and leisure facilities that meet the needs of the local community.
Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Hounslow’s leisure lead, said the contractor’s appointment brought the new leisure centre one step closer.
“I’m looking forward to working with Morgan Sindall to create the best leisure provision we can for the benefit of the community,” she said.
Plans for the development have yet to be approved by Hounslow councillors, but the proposed scheme would be built on the site of the current centre in New Heston Road.
Its facilities would include a 25 metre main pool, a learner pool, health suites, a 100-station gym, two dance studios, a café and wet and dry changing facilities.
The scheme will also involve external landscaping and the construction of new car parking facilities.
Additionally, Hounslow’s current plans include a four-storey block containing 14 flats and outline proposals for two further residential developments on the site.
