The final phase of Brentford's Great West Quarter development is due to start construction in January after planning permission was granted by Hounslow Council.
As well as 83 new homes, the last instalment of the development will boast a 10-storey “green wall” that sits within a glass atrium at the front of the building, architect Assael said.
Great West Quarter is already 80 per cent complete, and the final building will be located at the north-west corner of the site, adjacent to the A4/M4.
Assael said each deck within the green wall would include a mix of tropical vegetation and hard landscaping.
“Wires linking each deck encourage plant life to flourish and grow around them. The plants within the atrium will clean and heat the air before it is circulated into the apartments,” it said.
In addition to its homes, the building will feature commercial space at ground floor level.
