Work starts on £13.5 million Heston leisure centre

by James Renoux-Wood Mon 31 March 2014, 3:49 pm

Work is now underway on a new 13.5 million leisure centre in Heston.

It is being built on the site of the former Heston Pool, and includes a 25 metre pool, a learner pool, a steam room and sauna, a gym, children’s play area, dance studios and a surfaced car park.

Council leader Councillor Jagdish Sharma, deputy leader Councillor Colin Ellar and cabinet member for leisure, Councillor Ajmer Grewal visited the site to see how work is progressing.

Cllr Sharma said: “It’s exciting to see works getting underway after so long planning and preparing. Local people have waited a long time to get these new facilities, which will help breathe new life into the area."

Cllr Ellar, a regular user of the former pool, added: "It’s not just about the new leisure centre; it’s about the wider programme of regeneration in the area."

The scheme was approved by Hounslow Council in December and is being funded through the sale of nearby land for residential development.
