Chiswick High Road earmarked as conservation area

Plans are in place to make Chiswick High Road the borough’s latest conservation area.
The decision follows a review of the area by the Hounslow Council and English Heritage, and studies recognising it as an area of special character.
The idea was first floated in 2001, when the high road was suggested as a possible westward extension of the existing Turnham Green conservation area.
Steve Curran, leader of the council, said: “Local people really value and appreciate the style and character of the high road, and by creating this new conservation area, we will be better able to resist developments that could harm its appearance.”
