Developer Ballymore has won planning permission to regenerate a neglected site just south of Brentford High Street.

Brentford High Street

The £500 million scheme on Brentford’s waterfront will see 900 homes built, as well as the restoration of the town's historic buildings – including St Lawrence’s Church, which will become a gym.

Hounslow councillors approved the application by nine votes to two on 27 November. The decision will now go before London mayor Boris Johnson, who has previously expressed his approval for the project.

Buildings at the development will range from three to five storeys along the high street and up to 10 storeys along the waterside. Ballymore has said that 20 per cent of the scheme would be reserved for commercial space for local businesses.

Planning permission was passed despite concerns from the local community about the proposed height of the buildings and the potential for the scheme to impact negatively on historical aspects of the town.
