Hounslow Council has published initial design proposals for the west of the borough, which highlight the significant growth potential of the area to the south of Heathrow Airport.
The development is estimated to deliver more than 7,600 homes and about 13,300 new jobs. The proposals will be made possible by the building of a new railway line into Heathrow Airport with a new station at Bedfont; this would transform the accessibility of the area and unlock new development sites, as well as improving surface access into the airport, which the council said is needed regardless of whether or not a third runway is built at Heathrow.
The area offers the opportunity to deliver 148,645sq m of office space and 139,354sq m of modern industrial and logistics space to support significant employment growth and diversity in Hounslow.
The vision has identified four key development opportunities, one of which is Bedfont Lakes Neighbourhoods. This envisages a series of connected neighbourhoods that establish a new edge and outlook over the Bedfont Lakes Country Park. There is potential for 2,890 homes with a mix of houses and apartments together with all the necessary infrastructure.
The neighbourhoods shall benefit from the new railway station at Bedfont and convenient transport links. The proposals were prepared to inform the production of the west of the borough plan, which the council will formally consult on in summer 2016.
When launching the plan, council leader Steve Curran described the area as a place where “people want to live in and businesses want to invest in”.
