Shelters for schools

by James Renoux-Wood Thu 25 February 2016, 2:18 pm

Earthquake shelters are being built in Hounslow’s school playgrounds with funding from Heathrow Airport.

The adobe huts will protect children from the noise of low-flying aeroplanes.

Of the 21 schools to get shelters over the next four years, seven will be built this year. Designed for disaster zones in Asia and Africa, the domes, likened to igloos, will enable children to take part in outdoor education lessons with less disruption from passing aircraft.
