Hounslow Council's executive director of regeneration, economic development and environment Brendon Walsh will take part in the 11th annual bicycle ride from London to MIPIM in Cannes, France, raising money for charity.
The Legal and General Real Assets Cycle to MIPIM, organised by fundraising charity Club Peloton, will see 127 riders from local authorities and the property industry leave from central London on Thursday 10 March and reach Cannes six days later after a 1500km journey, to join up with the other delegates at the international property event from 15 to 18 March.
Pedalling to MIPIM for the sixth time, Walsh is a keen supporter of the initiative, despite the “couple of months” it takes him to recover after it every time.
He stressed the importance of establishing working connections during the ride. He said: “Networking on the ride is almost as good as networking at MIPIM.
“But it is much more about generating sponsorships for the charity, having experienced the very good work that they do.”
Money raised through sponsorships will go to different charities. Two thirds of the fundraising will support Coram, which helps children and young people across the country, primarily financing the charity’s adoption service.
As much as £2.3 million have been collected since the first ride in 2006, and Club Peloton hopes to smash the £2.6 million barrier this year.
